I’m excited to write this Insanity Review, because it demonstrates what perseverance, dedication, and will power can accomplish. Over the past several months, I have been in email correspondence with Gloria. Gloria is a mother of 4 that not only tackled Insanity once, but TWICE. I’m very proud of all our customers when they reach their fitness goals! I hope that if you have reached a fitness goal, you will send me a testimonial as well. Great job Gloria!
From Gloria: Well where do i start…Im 27 years old and I have 4 kids and let me tell you before I had kids I never worked out actually it never crossed my mind. I started caring about the way i looked after my last child was born…I was at my heaviest 155lbs!!! I was depressed and didnt know what to do…I tried going to the gym but that didnt seem to get where i wanted and I tried running but I still wasnt getting the results I thought I should see! I lost weight and thought ok maybe this is just the way its going to be….
Then a friend introduced me to INSANITY!!! and that’s what changed my way of thinking about fitness…Let me just tell you that when I first started INSANITY I was like omg! My first few weeks were my hardest! but i kept on pushing myself..i don’t know what it is but there’s something about INSANITY that MOTIVATES you and makes you PUSH yourself harder each time you workout! So as of now, I’m almost done with my second round! and I’m ready for my 3rd round! I’ve never felt so fit, so healthy, so challenged! I look at myself and just know that I can overcome anything! Right now I weigh 115lbs! WOW! I’m still amazed! When I started INSANITY I weighed 135lbs so I lost 20lbs and I’m in the best shape of my life!!! With INSANITY you cant go wrong! If you stick with it, eat right, stay committed, I know you will get great results! I know i did!!!

I am also a 27 yr old mom of 4. I am about 20 lbs heavier than before my first baby and while I am “slim” by todays standards at 129 I am very unhappy with my body. I am on the fence about this product. It’s appealing to me because it does not require eqipment like p90x. I am curious what this mom did besides the workout. diet? supplements? etc? I am nursing so I can’t take supplements and I have a large family so having a seperate diet for me is quite difficult. If it is possible she can contact me directly.
Thanks for stopping by, I will forward the comment to her. Thanks again!
I’m on my third week of insanity and still havent lost weight, but I feel my body changing. When did you start losing?
I don’t mean to sound rude but if you’re doing the Insanity workout but still eating bad fattening foods, you’ll lose some weight but for the most part you’ll just be gaining fat and then converting it to muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat so you could do the entire program and get in better shape but not lose that many lbs. If you want to lose weight you have to eat right, there’s no way around that. You don’t have to go all out eating nothing but veggies but cut back on snacks, soda’s, eliminate fast foods completely if you can. but there is no secret workout that allows you to eat horribly and still lose weight. Also a good tip when you do start eating healthier is to change up what you eat. Eventually your body will adjust to what you’re eating and you’ll “plateau” so you have to mix things up from time to time. If you can dedicate yourself to working this hard on this program you can dedicate yourself to changing how you eat.
You’re right Nick. Nutrition is a BIG part of any exercise program.
I am a little concerned, I have been wearing my caltrac while doing insanity program and the calories burn says only 254. So after I finish the tape I walk and run on my trend mill too! I eat a very healthy diet and have lost a few pounds though concerned about only burning 254 calories. Is this correct?
I don’t think so Paula. I was burning 600-900 calories per workout. I do admire you for getting on the treadmill after wards! You might double check the settings. I knew of another customer that was using a heart rate monitor and it detected movement. And when standing in the same area, and not moving so much, it didn’t calculate properly. Since Insanity is all in the same area, that might be throwing it off. Not 100% sure, but its possible I guess.
Gloria reminds me of ME! Except I’m 44, 173 lbs and 5’10. I have always been slim, 135 lbs until I had my 2nd and last child. I have tried a lot of different work outs, simpler to Gloria. I try to eat healthy and want to look like I did when I was 135. I feel there is no hope for me! Gloria said she never worked out and I’m skepitcal to buy this Insanity because it mentions, Intense, and I’m totally out of shape! I can’t even walk 2 miles without going dizzy. Will this work for a beginner or should I try something more milder?
Lori, I would recommend something other than Insanity at this point. Take a look at Power 90. It’s a great program, and starts out at a level that will work for you. You can also compare some other programs here. The important thing is, get started with something, and you’ll see improvements. All the Beachbody products are great programs.
I am definitely going to get a new Heart Rate monitor! Thanks Robert I appreciate this info, I am going to shop today in fact for one. I have been at a plateu for 3.5 weeeks and it could be that I am burning more calories then I think and not eatting enough calories. Any suggestions on a good one?
My wife uses this one and really likes it. http://www.extremely-fit.com/bowflex-heart-rate-monitor.html
Keep me posted.
Paula I am with you. I am 49 years old and in pretty good shape. I do hard workouts and have been used to burning 600 -700- calories a workout. I just started this program this week and have been so disappointed tn the number of calories… like only 300 -400- per workout today was recovery and only 150! I too get on the treadmill or head out for a run. I am trying to not workout so much because really my body is saying 3 hours a day is too much. I use a Polar heart rate monitor…
Maureen, Those numbers just don’t seem right. When you do the workout, how does it “feel” compared the others? When you say you burn 600-700 a workout, is that an exercise program, or when you go for runs etc? If you feel like you are working just as hard or harder than your other workouts, I’d look into your watch or settings on the watch. Strange.
Ok went to REI and got a Polar T6 HR monitor and used it today on my workout today. I am on the 5th week doing the upgraded deluxe verion dvd, that I am suppose to use week 5. So 55 minutes of workout today and burned 410 calories much better than the 234, though not my 550-600 I burn running for 45-50 minutes on the tread mill at 5.3mph. So I hear Maureen, I have to say I have a lot more strength with more muscle from this program compared to running and weight training that I did before. I thought the workout today wasn’t that bad in terms of intensity. I think pure cardio has been the toughest! Wish me luck have been on a plateau since I started insanity. Before I was losing 2-3 lbs weekly. I eat really healthy too and count calories. Hmmmm, not sure why the plateau!
i do not work out and i smoke which im trying to quit and i ordered this should have it anyday,, i hopr this is not too much to start out with im about 115 and 5 2 and want to firm up… Sheila
Sheila, Of course the benefits of kicking the smoking habit speaks for themselves. Depending on your fitness level, take breaks as needed, and rest as needed. In time, you will get in better and better shape, and the breaks will start to drop in frequency. The most important thing to do is be CONSISTENT, workout as scheduled. You’ll be sore, but moving and exercising, is actually better than skipping workouts. You may be moving slower on your sore days, but this too will improve. Good luck and come back here and keep us posted!
Ok thanks for the advise, have cut way down with smoking hoping by next week i will be done with that.. i am going to strat my DVD today.. i am so excited..
Hi. I got this program last week, but was afraid to open it! I turned 42 this Saturday and told myself that I do not want to look good for 42…I want to look good, PERIOD. I have two children, weigh 170 and am 5’6″. I run regularly in 5k and eat a *fairly* clean diet. I like the recipes that are provided, but I will have to substitute some of the options because I don’t eat meat. I just started tonight with the fit test, and I did better than I expected. I love that I felt so flexible at the end of the test. Looking forward to tomorrow. I’m excited (and scared) about what’s in store! Good luck to everyone who is just starting or considering giving this a try.
Shawna, You can do it!! Keep us posted with your results, I’m sure they will be great. We’re here if you have questions along the way.
I am considering Insanity for my next program. I am in the middle of finishing ChaLean Extreme. Do you think Insanity is a good follow up to ChaLean Extreme, or should I do another program? I like that Insanity is shorter workouts vs P90X. I had thought about P90X, but I just don’t have that much time to invest in working out while my kids are still young.
Melyssa, If you like Chalene Johnson, you should consider Turbo Fire. Depending on your fitness level, maybe even the Base Kit plus the Advanced DVDs. Then you have an option. Do a round of Turbo Fire, or do the hybrid workout plan that Chalene gives you in the Turbo Fire Fitness guide. The two programs blend together nicely. As far as Insanity, that is an excellent program as well, and I don’t think you could go wrong there. I suggest Turbo Fire for you, because it goes so well with Chalene. Let me know what you decide either way, and tell me what you think.
I’m also happy to help along the way.
Thanks for the input. I have done Turbo Jam and it is fine, not really sure if I want to do more choregraphed dancy cardio. I really enjoy lifting, not cardio so much, but thought with the Insanity being only 60 days,l I could maybe give the cardio a 60 day shot. I will check more into TurboFire though. Thanks again.
Insanity is more athletic type cardio, so may be more to your liking.
HI, I am thinking about buying Insanity but I have concern. Is Insanity designed to be used every single day? I am a newly employeed nurse and I’m worried that I won’t be able to exercise everyday, considering I will be working 12 hour shifts 3-4 times a week, I usually workout only three times a week; is that enough with Insanity?
Gia,
Of course you will have the most results with a 6 day workout program. Insanity is designed to be a 6 day program. I would say that if you can only do 3, then you can just modify the schedule. Some workouts will be better than none. If you follow the Insanity Nutrition Guide, you will also get benefits towards your fitness goals as well. You may find that as you go through the program, you may be able to squeeze in some more workouts than you thought. Hope this helps.
Hi, I just Ordered INSANITY and have to admit Im really excited to get started. Im in ok shape but not compared to what I used to be. I never had a problem putting on Mass but always had to work really hard at getting and staying lean. I was really torn between P90X and Insanity as far as cutting weight and firming up did I make the right choice between the two, I don’t want to get scrawny either was P90X a smarter choice to increase lean Muscle? I was thinking of buying P90X after the 60 days of Insanity to compliment it. Im still cofused about which one will benefit me more.
I think you will enjoy both programs. Insanity will do a good job of getting you lean. P90X will do a great job of adding muscle. Eventually you can combine the two programs for the best of both worlds.
We would appreciate your business in our store as well, we are an authorized retailer of Beachbody programs. http://www.extremely-fit.com
I had my 2nd baby back in January and am really wanting to get the extra weight off and get back in shape. My husband read in a magazine about the Monkey Bar Gym so he wanted us to do strength type workouts outside but we did that one day and the weather turned cold again. The second night, he brought out a P90X dvd – Kenpo X – and we did that instead. I LOVED it! Since then we have done some Cardio and Yoga X but we don’t have any of the equipment for the rest of the set and no where to put it if we did. We ordered Insanity this past weekend and should get it in a couple days. I’m super excited to get started! P90X challenged me and kicked my butt the first couple days but that is what brought me back night after night. I can’t wait to get started on Insanity and see what challenges I can conquer with it!
Toree, that’s awesome. Be sure to come back and read all of my Insanity Reviews. I reviewed each DVD. I get several comments that people like to read the specific DVD review prior to starting the workout. They say they like knowing what they are getting into.
We are also authorized Beachbody Dealers, so I hope that if you need anything from Beachbody, you’ll visit us again. Good luck!! Let us know how you do!
I started insanity on Tuesday with one of my best friends, she is having a 4th of July party and I refuse to be this heavy…5’2″ and over 170. I have to say that I feel really good, my energy level is higher than it used to be and am more motivated…I can’t wait to see the results after 56 more days!!!
Jaime, Workout hard, and follow the nutrition as closely as possible, as I stated in my other comment. You can do this!
Do you have to get on the floor a lot for the insanity work out?
Plates makes u get on the floor a lot I couldn’t do all that.
Erica, there is a lot of plank work, where you are in a push up position. You can always modify if you have trouble by substituting in different moves instead.
i have a degenarate disc in my back and i ordered the insanity last year …i’m worried that i may hurt myself….
what do you think….
is insanity to strenous for me to do…
Karen, I wish I could give you an answer on that one. Only you or your doctor can provide that answer.
I recently ordered Insanity. I am a smoker and not in shape at all. I am somewhat satisfied with my weight but I want to lose a couple and tone up. Is this program good for me or is it to much?
You can try it, but honestly, I would say it’s probably too much. I would consider something like Power 90 instead.
Whoops! I hit the wrong button.
I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I quit after the fitness test. I cried and cried because I was so sore. I felt worse than after my marathon!
But then I waited a couple of days and did day 2. I survived. Then day 3….I have not done 6 days in a row but once. I am still running and doing a CrossFit workout once a week. Two days a week I run 3 or 4 miles first and then do the next insanity workout. Some days I run only (like my 10 mile day), and some days I do Insanity only. I am doing the DVDs in order, just not 6 days a week.
The first day of Max was tough!!! My knees have been hurting, so I dropped back to the first workout (the one after the first fitness test) today.
I have not lost any weight (I weigh 115 and I am 5’2″), but I am definitely more lean. I am stronger. And I am proud that I can do the workouts!
I’m a 28 yr old mom of 2 and have never felt worse about my fitness level and body image. I am 137 lbs and only 5″! I have never worked out, not regularly and I just got my dvd’s today. I’m with many people on this site saying they are a little scared about starting, the infomercials make it look ridiculous! I mainly wanted to try this because prior to having my kids I was very small, and my skin stretched sooo much with the pregnancies that I can’t see how basic work outs or hours on my elliptical can ever improve it enough to feel good again. I want to loose weight but most of all, feel and look great. I really hope I can pull this off!
Liz, Some words of advice.
You CAN do this. It will be difficult. Do what you can, and take breaks on the workout as needed. It will be a physical and mental challenge. Don’t give in, just be smart, and you know when you need to rest, but at the same time, you do have to push yourself past comfort limits. The other thing you can do to dramatically increase your results, is lock in on your nutrition. This will really spring forward your results. Good luck, and let us know how you are doing!
Roan, this is an awesome story on two accounts! One, you did it! You refused to accept defeat, and you stayed after it. Congrats!! The second, while you state you did not lose any weight, you ARE seeing results! You are leaner, stronger, and more of a cardio machine than you originally thought possible! Which means FAT LOSS, and that’s more important than weight loss any day in my book. I bet if you measured on day one, you will have found that you lost inches along the way too. I’m also thrilled that you are realizing your limitations, and doing what you feel is best, watch your knees and protect them, and do what you can. Congrats again!
Hello everyone
I started insanity one week ago…
It´s really hard but day by day seems like you get adicted. I LOVE IT!!!
I am taking care of my food, and I feel really good. I play basketball twice a week and after this first week I jump more and get tired less when I am playing…, I do not noticed any weight lose but I have a lot of energy during the day..
When you start noticing weight loose???
Thank u!!
I am on my 16th day of Insanity and at the beginning I followed the nutrition guide to a T…now I am eating healthy still but not following the nutrition guide exactly…I do actually have snack each day that I probably shouldnt have but I cant help it…like cheez-its or pretzels….I just hope I am not ruining eveything Ive been working for on a snack…I did lose 3lbs but then gain them back but I can feel my legs toning up even though my measurements r still the same…I guess my question is as long as I do the workouts 6 days a week and eat healthy with the occasional snacks…will I still be toning? and maybe lose weight?
I just ordered Insanity and excited to start.
Former bodybuilder trying to get down to 10% BF 9not easy for my genetics).
I have plenty of muscle, so looking to loose 30lbs of fat to get to just under 10%.
225 now with 36-38 waist. Goal is 195 which will put me at 31-32″ waist.
pretty good for 5’6″
I will be doing on carpet in my living room. Should I get some type of exercise mat or am I fine on my carpet?
Thanks.
Hey Mike. You can do it right on the carpet, but you are going to sweat A LOT.
This was a big factor in my decision to put down a large mat. I went to Lowe’s, and bought some 2′ x 2′ mat squares that piece together. I was able to complete Insanity on a 8′ x 8′ mat. Hope this helps! Report back and let me know how Insanity works to trim up and cut weight.
Darnell, Extra energy, and improvements in sports….. awesome! I’m curious. Did you measure yourself? You might take measurements around your waist, hips, chest, thighs, etc. You may be retaining muscle and dropping fat. Another thing to consider, is your diet. Even if you are eating clean food, if you are taking in more calories than you burn in a day, you won’t lose weight. You might try dropping 100-200 calories per day and see if you notice some weight coming off. Let us know!
I’m considering ordering this. I just had a few questions:
- Would a normal-sized yoga mat be sufficient to work out on? It might not catch all the sweat, but I’ll be working on a tile floor so a) I can mop up and b) I’ll need some cushioning. Should it be enough?
- How long (ballpark range) are the workouts? I have about an hour or two in the morning before I have to get to work that should be ideal for working out, but the rest of the day usually ends up occupied.
Thanks Robert…. I took my measurements when I started I was waiting for the end of week 4 to take them again.
Regarding my diet I am doing my 5 meals a day small portions, I reduced carbs and sugar (specially rice) that in my country (Costa Rica)rice is on every day´s lunch. Also I am eating more vegetables and 2 of my 5 meals includes fruits, at nigh I eat very light.
Besides when I go to the supermarket I check the nutritional info on the products.
I am not using the nutritional guide fro Shaun T since there are things we don´t have here…
Do you thing my diet is fine, or should I better base on counting the calories..
Thanks & Cheers!
Hi Dave. Question 1. You’ll do some drills on and off that yoga mat, however, there are some stationary exercises that you could use this as a landing space.
I went to Lowe’s and bought a 6′x8′ mat. It was a puzzle type mat in 2′ sections, so you can piece it together. Question 2. The first 4 weeks are under an hour, about 45 minutes. The second month is right at an hour. We throw in a bonus DVD that you don’t get off the infomercial. It’s a bonus DVD that Beachbody allows their authorized retailers offer. So be sure to check out this link: http://www.extremely-fit.com/insanity.html
Thanks!
I’m 23 years old, and have been a “bigger” girl, I cheered when I was in school, on a squad that was trained and conditioned like the school basketball team, at that time i weighed 165lbs but I’m 5’10 and as they say “big-boned”. But, at this time I’m 240 lbs, and i feel disgusting, I avoid mirrors and wear very loose clothes. About 5 months ago I started Adipex, and have lost over 30 lbs, but i need something to get my body in shape, I’ve retaught myself how to eat correctly, but I hate walking into a gym, seeing all those people and thinking in my head that they’re watching me psychs me out. I need something to do at home, where I am comfortable. Being my size, is Insanity something that I should jump into, or is there more of a beginner program, or is Insanity something that I can do a couple times to get the results that I need? Something that’s hardcore and will make me sore, and curse myself for doing I can do and love, I just want to make sure that I’m doing whats best for me. HELP Please!!!!
