By using simple, healthy ingredients and time-saving strategies, anyone can create a nutritious meal in about ten minutes. That’s about the same amount of time you’d spend placing and getting your order at a fast-food restaurant.

Instead of spending 10 minutes standing in line for fatty, salty food, why not spend it making a home-cooked meal that’s good for you? By using a limited number of ingredients and a variety of spices, you can create 10-minute recipes that are just as delicious as those that take hours to create.

How’s it done?

To cut down on cooking time, begin with pre-prepared ingredients like grilled chicken breasts and baked fish. These lean proteins are easy to cook in batches when time allows on weekends. Store them in the refrigerator, and use them throughout the week in stir-fried vegetable dishes. Or, roll them up in whole-grain tortillas along with onions and peppers for quick fajitas.

Grains such as “minute” brown rice and couscous are also ideal basic ingredients for 10-minute meals. Both cook up quickly in the microwave. For breakfast, try quick-cooking oats rather than packets. You’ll get more flavor, fewer preservatives, and less sugar. For a pop of flavor, stir in low-fat peanut butter.
