Insanity Reviews: Fit Test

insanity-fit-test-smThe Insanity Workout comes with a Fit Test DVD. There are two  reasons for the Fit Test.  The first of which is to give you an idea of your current fitness level, and if Insanity is (currently) for you. I say “currently” because anybody, EVERYONE, can do Insanity. With commitment, dedication, will power, and determination. But that’s not all. You have to be in good shape. So Insanity may not be for you, right now. If you do the Fit Test DVD, and are intimidated by the 25 minute Fit Test, you may want to post pone Insanity. Start with another program, Beachbody offers a wide range of programs for all levels of fitness. You can find my program comparison article right here. But please, don’t be discouraged, Insanity is Extreme. You’ll get there in due time. Make fitness a lifetime commitment. Start with another program, and then do Insanity. The ones of you that are ready for Insanity, we’re in for a journey together.

The second reason for the Fit Test is designed so that you can track your progress over the next 60 days. You can see the amazing results as you progress.

The Fit Test is just over 25 minutes in length. During the Fit Test you will do a warm up, stretch, 8 Fit Test exercise, then a cool down and stretch. During the Fit Test exercises, you want to do as many repetitions as you can in the amount of time provided, with good form.

The Warm Up is about 1 minute 50 seconds. You start with a Jog, followed by Jumping Jacks, Heisman, 123 Heisman, Butt Kicks, High Knees, and Mummy Kicks.

The Warm Up will give you the first taste of your fitness level. The Warm Up in the regular Insanity Workouts is generally 3 rounds of about 3 minutes each. In the Fit Test, you do one round of almost 2 minutes. Fairly significant difference. Again, if you are intimidated during this Fit Test, think about another workout. :) My job is to encourage you, and be honest with you. You can always count on an honest review with me, and all my workout reviews.

The Warm up is followed by a quick stretch, which lasts about 1 minute 20 seconds. After the stretch, you get into the real reason for this DVD. The Fit Test. Let me set up the stage here. Two people are taking the Fit Test in this DVD. Tonya and Chris. Both of these two have completed the 60 day Insanity program. So after each exercise, Shaun T asks each, how many reps they had. Then he asks them for their starting reps, prior to Insanity. I though this was absolutely fantastic. It allowed me to compare my results with their beginning reps and their 60 day reps. So with that information, under each exercise, I’m going to post 3 results. The results from Tonya and Chris, and then mine. Each time I do the Fit Test, I’m going to come back, and post my new results. After each exercise, you get a 1 minute break. Here we go!

1. Switch Kicks. Do as many as you can in 1 minute.
The Fit Test guide states count every set of kicks, left AND right, count as 1.  However, the video shows each kick as one.  The numbers below are based on 1 kick equals 1 rep.

Congrats!! You finished the Insanity Fit Test. You take about a 4 minute cool down and stretch, and you’re done. Now this is called a Fit Test, but I feel like I just finished a workout!

I’m pleased about my results. I felt like I kept a good pace with Tonya and Chris. On the other hand, I feel like I set my bar pretty high for the next test. But it’s all about pushing yourself, that’s all I know how to do, so the next one will just have to improve. So no matter what your results are, higher or lower, than ours, regardless. Continue to push yourself and work hard. We’re in this together, no matter what program you’re on. Email me or contact me anytime, Comment below, share this with your friends by using the Share Link. Let’s spread the word about health and fitness, and make ourselves accountable to others, we’re in this together. Until the next Insanity Review. Thanks for reading!

  4. Mike

Wish there was an excel sheet to track insanity fit test. Could use graphs to show improvement. have multiple users so wife and I can compare overall improvement not only quantity per exercise. thx for help!

  5. Robert Harden

Mike, I wish there was such a worksheet, none that I am aware of yet. If I see one surface, I will make it available! Thanks for stopping by our website.

  6. Will Luck

Mike surely if you and your wife just find the mean average from each exercise in the fit test (add each result up and divide by number of exercises, which is 8 ) you can put those figures into a simple graph and see your improvement. That’s what I’m going to do – started Insanity today!

  7. Mike

    Will,
Thanks for the idea! Good luck with your workout!

  8. Dan

    Mike,

You can use Excel to do so… if you input your data and create a chart it will instantly convert your numbers into a chart. It is a pretty cool tool in excell

I’m a college football player looking for a change in routine. I’ve gotten fed up with the daily grind of heavy weights and the same routine every couple days with a couple switches here and there. I finally worked up the courage to order this and see the transformation as my body goes through shock from this workout… Will post numbers eventually

    Hi

A little background is that I made a commitment this year to get healthier! Trough eating clean and daily cardio work outs, I’ve lost 30 lbs. As of July I weighed in at 215 lbs and currently weigh 183.5 lbs. I feel better than I’ve felt in years. My goal is get down to 160 by end of Feb 2012.

With the Insanity Fit Test, how long do I do that DVD before moving onto the 60 day Program?

  12. nappytdy

I want to say thank you for your reviews. I am doing Fit Test #2 today and I am so excited. Your reviews are so instrumental in every day of workouts.

  13. Robert Harden

    Thank you so much!

  14. Suzy

I created a very simple excel chart for the Fit Test. It’s currently only for one person, but if you want I can email it to you.

  15. Robert Harden

Sure Suzy. Send it over. :) robert(at)extremely-fit.com

  16. Rain

Hey Rob! My husband and i started Insanity this morning. The Fit test was funbut we’re really unfit. A few months after my c-section i was in way better shape than this. But i believe in muscle memory and trust me just knowing that i took the leap and pushed play, made me walk taller than my 6′ 3″ frame today!!! lol

  17. Robert Harden

    Rain,

Congrats!! You know Insanity will test you mentally and physically. You CAN do this, you may have to take breaks, you may not do as well as you hope, but stay after it. Do your best, and keep your nutrition on track for the best results. Keep me posted!

  18. RT

I am not in a best shape and little better than a potato couch.Just thought of doing something and feel good and encounter insanity. Tried Fit test and first day after warmup exercise feels like I am all done. Can’t do any more. But was able to do 4 out of 8. So I have decided to do fit test for few more days so that my body can get a feel of what it will go through.Today is my 3rd day and on both day 2 and 3 I was able to complete the fit test.
This is my plan for now. Try to do each DVD fully upto my satisfaction .After completing all of those will follow the 60 days program. I think there is no better way for people like me who seldom visit gym and do very very light exercise. But one thing for sure I am determined to make a change inside me and will do that for sure.

  19. Robert Harden

RT, everyone has to do what they feel is best for them. You sound determined, and that’s the most important! With your determination, I’d tackle it. Just do your best each day, and repeat the first 30 days if need be.

  20. Joanna

What scores for the fit test would you deem to low to safely start the insanity programme?

  21. Robert Harden

Joanna, there is now right or wrong answer. The idea is to improve each time you take the test. You just need to know that the fit test is a preview of what’s to come. The workouts are intense, so take water breaks, and watch your heart rate. Do your best. :)
